Mr. Wm. Carruth, a highly respected Pioneer and citizen of Coalville passed away at his home last Saturday morning at five o’clock after an illness of seven weeks. As a neighbor, we found Mr. Carruth ready at all times to lend a helping hand. The day was never too long nor the night too dark to personally attend to a neighbor’s wants. The whole community misses a man of this type very much. The two sons residing here are connected with Coalville’s best interests. Mr. Ray Carruth is our Mayor and also Cashier of the First National Bank. Mr. Elwood is manager of the Summit Furniture and Mercantile Co. Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Carruth celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, at which time all of their children were here.
Mr. Carruth was born at Murray, Utah, April 29, 1850, the sone of William and Maragret Ellwood Carruth. he was married May 9, 1870, to Emma Wilde of this place. To them were born eleven children, all of whom are living, as follows: Mrs. J. L. Rhead, Ogden; W. H. Carruth, Devils Slide; J. T. Carruth, Coalville; Mrs. A. E. Becker, Ogden; Mrs. J. J.
